Lensman 2 was a significant departure from its predecessors, which used a common architecture, feature set and style.

Technically it set off on a new trajectory. Most obviously we decided to create a timepiece sans tourbillon, opening a vastly more accessible price range. But don’t for a minute think that Lensman 2 is technically inferior to its older siblings…..it’s just quite different and, as with normal family life the older kids had to behave themselves whilst the youngest get away with running riot.

We’ll come back to that later: first, there’s some serious technical ground to cover. Lensman 2 brings together a multitude of significant technical milestones in horology. We’ll start with the case: aluminium is a metal that has revolutionised products across many categories: the abundant material is light, strong, easy to make into things, it can’t rust or hold magnetic energy. Sounds perfect for watches….? Maybe, with a few tweaks! Untreated aluminium is soft, and its surface can quickly blemish and oxidize. But what if you could mechanically combine an improved, hard anodized aluminium with another material?

There was a reason other brands had rarely combined grade 5 titanium and aluminium into a new hybrid exoskeleton metallic composite case – it was a huge production challenge! The result however is a highly wearable and unique timepiece. The hard anodized aluminium retains its greatest asset: lightness, whilst the polished titanium skeleton outer case adds strength, durability and higher hardness.
The contrasting matt black aluminium and lustrous polished titanium edges, case back ring, crown and lugs are a work of sheer industrial beauty: a rare moment when functional design crosses into aesthetic perfection. The twin materials perfectly align with the rounded square form of the watch, which artfully mimics the shape of a medium format camera.

Our bi-directional rotating bezel is a modern interpretation of the classic tool watch – with a twist. Typically slide rule watches are created for pilots. HORAGE has re-interpreted this functionality: not to calculate an aircraft’s range but to support the capturing of light: that ephemeral treasure that transforms an average shot into one of sheer greatness.
And last, but not least: let’s talk about the Yellow. Not the iconic 1980’s Swiss Synth pop pioneers but the colour. As you know at HORAGE we never shy away from a challenge, and using yellow for a product is a sure-fire way to stoke passions! A hue which is confident and cheerful but perceived by some as synonymous with cowardice or betrayal. If ever there was a colour that caused heated debate, yellow would be top of the list.

To own Lensman 2 is to embark on a journey which welcomes and celebrates this joyful colour. Your minimum commitment will be the Brian Griffin limited edition silver dial variant, where the yellow GMT hand perfectly fulfils the role of strong readability without cluttering the dial layout. Want a classical interpretation? The black dial adds yellow 5-minute markers to give just a wee bit more pop. For the fully immersive, ultimate yellow experience we highly recommend you dive in at the very deep end and choose the yellow dial.

Why be shy? With a choice of black or yellow strap we allow yet more customisation to tone up (or down) the Yellowness™ to suit your mood, the season or that tailored yellow suit you’ve always wanted……
