It’s official: summer is here, please check a window near you for analogue confirmation. We all have a favourite season, but it is unlikely that summer is not on your favourites list.
Long sultry, warm evenings, infinite azure skies, socialising outside with friends and family, feeling the sun gently warming your skin. The long dark winter days are a distant memory. No need to wrap up in 4 layers of hi-tech, Himalaya ready outdoor gear and plan ahead for a daily mix of rain, wind, frost and ice.
Outside the muted sound of kids playing drifts in and out of your periphery. Lawns are mowed, filling the air with the sweet aroma of freshly cut grass. Smoke from the neighbour’s BBQ wafts along the street. A soundtrack of Beach Boys, Sixties soul and bass heavy rap drifts out of apartment windows, parks and slow-moving cars.
Summer is the time to get outdoors and be active. Stock up on vitamin D, fill your lungs with warm, sticky air. Embrace the process of getting a little too hot, knowing the reward of jumping into cool water is close at hand. As the thermometer creeps upwards the search for water swiftly moves to the top of your “To-Do” list. Is it a local lake, a municipal pool or are you lucky enough to be close to the actual ocean?
A beach can come in many shapes, colours and sizes…..we might fantasize of palm trees, pedalos and parasols but frankly anywhere with sun, shade and water will do.
Water, sand, suntan cream – a perfect tonic for the soul…..but maybe not for your dressiest piece. Time for something more rugged!
